Flying Fish... "The World's Largest Billy Bass Adoption Center". Did you know that if you donate one of these singing fish that you are awarded one free catfish dinner? Rewind to November 2005... Sheridan Kirksey had spent the entire summer scowering every yard sale in the Ozarks to find not one, not two but FIVE billy basses for the entire Kirksey family. Mom and Dad had come to Little Rock for the weekend to help with my new house, when Dad announced that he had secured 5 of these things and this was the weekend we were going to cash them in! After much begging, we talked him into at least going to the restaurant during non peak hours. All ten of us loaded up (5 Kirkseys and 5 basses) and headed downtown. Those poor little fish sang the entire way, "take me to the river...drop me in the water". It was kinda sad, the had no idea of that fate that awaited them! Of course there was not a parking spot anywhere close, so there we were like little ducks in a row walking down President Clinton Avenue with our fish in tow! Too bad I didn't have a camera back then! We marched into Flying Fish and proudly presented our billy basses. The entire Kirksey family ate for free that day! It was a good day, one I don't think any of us will ever forget! So if you ever get a chance, stop in and say hello to the Billy Kirkseys!!
